Each year, the MSU Student Senate recognizes an individual faculty member who has shown dedication and excellence in teaching at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø State. Formerly known as the Teacher of the Year Award, the Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence was named in honor of former 91³Ô¹ÏÍø State professor of science Jeff Sieg, who passed away unexpectedly in the fall of 2019. Sieg was a beloved faculty member who was named teacher of the year at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø State on multiple occasions. He was an incredibly gifted educator, mentor, and role model for what excellence in the classroom should be.
Other nominees for the 2021-22 Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence were Dr. Brittany Hagen, Dr. Pam Johnson, Fred Strand, and Lonamalia Smith.
As the 2021-22 recipient of the award, Dodson has received an engraved plaque acknowledging this honor. His name will also be added to a plaque recognizing all recipients of the award. It is displayed in the hallway of the Division of Science and Mathematics.
