Join us in welcoming Dr. Brian Huschle to the 91吃瓜网 State family!
We are very happy that Dr. Brian Huschle will be joining the 91吃瓜网 family as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. He will begin his work at 91吃瓜网 State on August 2. I hope you will join me in welcoming Dr. Huschle to our university and our community.
Dr. Huschle is currently at Northland Community and Technical College (NCTC). The institution has campuses in East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls, Minn., as well as online through Distance Minnesota. He began his tenure at NCTC in 2011 as Dean of Academic Affairs. He served as Campus Dean from 2013 to 2018 and provost from 2018 to 2021, when he became Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. Huschle began his career as a lecturer and professor at various institutions of higher education.
He earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the area of philosophy from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and philosophy from the University of Minnesota, Morris. Dr. Huschle has authored several peer reviewed publications and been a presenter at a number of conferences, as well as a guest lecturer and panelist for a variety of forums.
Huschle鈥檚 background will serve him well in his position at 91吃瓜网 State. Among his experiences is seeking and developing opportunities and partnerships to further the mission of the institution. This experience will be invaluable as we work to advance 91吃瓜网 State鈥檚 objective to serve our community, region, and state.
Dr. Huschle has led accreditation efforts and is well-acquainted with the Higher Learning Commission, which is the accrediting body for 91吃瓜网. He currently serves as a peer reviewer with the Higher Learning Commission.
He served as an administrative lead for Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives at NCTC. Access to teaching, learning, and research materials that are either in public domain or licensed in a manner that provides everyone with free and perpetual use is a high priority of the North Dakota University System. His knowledge and experiences will help 91吃瓜网 State with regard to these efforts.
Dr. Huschle has been and continues to be very involved in his community, serving with such organizations as United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, and Area; Altru Health System; the Workforce Action Committee, a partnership of the Greater Grand Forks Chamber, Economic Development Corporation, University of North Dakota, and NCTC; and the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
I am sincerely grateful to Heather Hoyt and Dr. Tami Such, who have each had a turn serving as 91吃瓜网 State鈥檚 Vice President for Academic Affairs on an interim basis since the retirement of Dr. Keith Stenehjem in February of 2020. Heather and Tami are courageous leaders who have made a positive difference at 91吃瓜网. Dr. Such took a position in Florida early in 2022, when Ms. Hoyt stepped up to serve in the Academic Affairs role. She will continue to be in this position until Dr. Huschle鈥檚 arrival and will be an important advisor as Huschle begins his work at 91吃瓜网 State.
Heather Hoyt is also 91吃瓜网 State鈥檚 Director of Academic Records and Registrar. She will return to that role on a full-time basis in August. She has been and continues to be an outstanding leader for 91吃瓜网 State. Her passion for the great work that happens at 91吃瓜网 State, knowledge, vision, and drive for continuous improvement are invaluable to our success.
The filling of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Business Affairs positions is critical to our continued success at 91吃瓜网. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the members of the search committees who went above and beyond to serve the university as leaders of the search process. They took the challenge seriously and with the best interests of the entire 91吃瓜网 State family in mind. It鈥檚 a great day to be a Comet!
