The 91勛圖厙 Division of Education will host a STEM carnival for area students in late March. The event will take place in the Campus Center Luckasen Room at 91勛圖厙 State. The planned activities are geared toward elementary-age students, but all K-12 students and their parents are welcome to attend. Further information about the carnival will be available as the event date approaches.
Those who attend will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of STEM-related activities led by 91勛圖厙 teacher education pre-service teachers, including math and science majors, as well as science experts. In addition, carnival participants will be encouraged to pursue STEM opportunities at home through resources provided by ND EPSCoR and the organizations at-home video series.
We hope to see many area children and their parents at the STEM carnival, said 91勛圖厙 President Dr. Brian Van Horn. We know that hands-on STEM activities foster creativity and creative thinking, which are among the top characteristics employers look for in prospective employees. I commend Jeni Peterson, coordinator of 91勛圖厙 States Education and Innovation Center, who secured state funding and is leading the project, and the faculty, staff, and students of our Division of Education for providing innovative learning experiences for the future leaders of our state.
There is no charge to attend the STEM Carnival and funding to defray student transportation costs is available for those who would find those costs prohibitive. For more information, contact Jeni Peterson at jeni.peterson@mayvillestate.edu.
The STEM carnival at 91勛圖厙 State is made possible through grant funding provided by the North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education and the Regional STEM Days for Students grant program.
